Former University of Michigan basketball standout Robert “Tractor” Traylor has been found dead in his apartment in Isla Verde, Puerto Rico. This is according to his Puerto Rican club’s Facebook page. Traylor was only 34 years old.
Traylor first made an impact in college for his huge physique and skill for the University of Michigan. He was taken with the 6th overall pick then swapped for Dirk Nowitzky on draft day after averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds his junior season at Michigan.
Unfortunately for Traylor his transition to the NBA wasn’t successful. He only averaged 4.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while playing for the Bucks, Cavaliers and Hornets. After a failed physical with the New Jersey Nets, Traylor began his international career in 2006.
Traylor had problems with weight and health issues throughout his entire playing career. He was also tied to former U-M booster Ed Martin and all the negative press surrounding the Michigan basketball program in the mid to late 90’s.
The cause of death has not been determined.
