You can probably bet that it wasn’t only about the money when Brady Hoke took over the head coaching job at the University of Michigan.
According to Angelique S. Chengelis of the Detroit News, new Michigan head football coach Brady Hoke and athletic director David Brandon have finally come to terms on a 6 year contract that will pay Hoke $2 million his first season with the team. The base salary is reportedly worth $300,000 with a $1.7 million in additional compensation.
“It’s really been a very positive, pleasant process from the perspective both parties were anxious to enter the agreement,” Brandon said in a telephone interview. “We worked through it at a natural pace.”
Furthermore Hoke will have his pay increase by $100,000 for the next six years of the contract. There is also a stay bonus of $1.5 million after three years and another $1.5 million after the sixth.
Among the head football coaches in the Big 10, Hokes salary ranks fourth in 2010. Chengelis states that last season Ohio State coach Jim Tressel made $3.88 million, Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz $3.78 million and Nebraska coach Bo Pelini made $2.1 million.
