I donβt advocate cheating in sports, but if youβre a βstudent-athleteβ how the hell do you become ineligible? Thatβs always been a question Iβve asked myself. You know thereβs always at least one person out there who just wants to be your βfriendβ and will do anything to help you get by.
The reason I bring this up is because Michiganβs Tate Forcier is academically ineligible for Michiganβs Gator Bowl date with Mississippi State on New Yearβs Day. Forcier is the backup quarterback to Denard Robinson and If Devin Gardner got the redshirt that Rich Rodriguez requested, the Wolverines are screwed if Robinson gets hurt. I donβt know if he got the redshirt or that he can pull it.
Back to Tateβs ineligibility. How does he screw up in the classroom? Granted, Iβve never been on a college campus, so Iβll never know how hard the classes actually are, but you would think that the University would provide an outlet for struggling student athletes.
Forcier explained that he has never been the greatest student. Well that seems apparent now. He also said that he was street smart, but not smart classroom-wise. Funny, I didnβt know you were from the mean streets Tateβ¦
Like I said, I donβt know how hard being a βstudent-athleteβ in college can be, but you would think they would give you the resources to succeed. And if you have a hard time achieving in the classroom, thereβs probably always someone there to βhelpβ.
