Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera has been scheduled for a March 16th court date at 9:00AM ET. The proceeding will take place in the 19th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Fort Pierce. This is according to Steve Kornacki of Mlive.com who cites court officials.
Cabrera (27), was arrested around 11PM ET on February 16th by St. Lucie County Sheriffs Deputies and charged with a DUI and resisting arrest without violence. He was also cited according to reports for having an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle. Cabrera also drank from a whiskey bottle while being questioned on the scene by the deputies and become ‘combative’.
Now according to representatives from the 19th Judicial Circuit, Cabrera through an attorney can waive the arraignment and not have to appear on the 16th. The Tigers do have an exhibition game scheduled for 1:05PM ET against the St. Louis Cardinals in Lakeland.
Tigers GM and Team President Dave Dombrowski said this past Saturday that Cabrera will be examined by doctors under the direction of MLB and will not be at Tigers camp for an ‘unspecified’ amount of time.
Kornacki mentions that Dombrowski hopes to receive more information on the next step for Cabrera whether it be counseling, treatment or other means later on this week.
