With an undefeated record on the line, Floyd Mayweather cemented his name in the history books defeating MMA star Conor McGregor in the 10th round via TKO and moving his record to an astounding 50-0.
That was expected.
What may have not been expected is the fury McGregor came out of the gates with.
In his first sanctioned boxing match against one of the greatest boxers of all-time, many had McGregor actually winning the first three rounds of the fight as his size advantage over Mayweather seemed to be making a difference.
However, once the fourth round came around so did Mayweather and it was downhill from there for the MMA champ.
As he’s done many times throughout his career, Mayweather adapted to his opponent and wore down the Irishman leading to a dominating 9th in which McGregor was lucky to escape.

And in the 10th at the 1:05 mark as Mayweather was essentially toying with McGregor along the ropes, the in-ring official stopped the fight and sealed the win for the 40-year-old champion.

Many had this fight predicted down to a tee. If McGregor was going to come out on top it had to happen in the first few rounds which early on looked as though that could be a possibility. However that scenario didn’t happen and the longer the match progressed the more it favored Mayweather who used the time to adjust and evaporate any chance of McGregor making a late surge.
Nonetheless that’s not to say McGregor was a complete failure in his first and perhaps last journey into the boxing ring.
To put things into perspective, McGregor lasted 10 rounds against the greatest boxer of a generation. In fact he landed more punches (111) against Mayweather than Manny Pacquiao (81) did in 12 rounds. Likewise, I’d like to say it’s pretty safe to assume Mayweather wouldn’t last as long (relatively speaking) in the MMA octagon.
And with that in mind, McGregor generally may be the best all-around fighter in the world.
But Saturday night belonged to Mayweather who said last night’s fight would be his last “for sure”.
Mayweather: This is my last fight tonight, ladies and gentleman. My last fight. For sure.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see on that one.
