Friday, the country of Turkey issued an arrest warrant for Oklahoma City Thunder center and Turkish native Enes Kanter on the absurd claims heโs a member of a โterrorist organizationโ according to a pro-government newspaper.
A judge issued the warrant after a prosecutor successfully bullshitted some investigation into Kanterโs alleged ties to an โarmed terrorist organizationโ.
However the Turkish government under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which has increasingly been more authoritarian has been a topic of criticism for the 25-year old NBAer. Kanter has also been a vocal supporter for exiled Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen who Erdoganโs totalitarian regime has accused of orchestrating the failed coup last July which many have sniffed out as a staged event the Turkish President himself.
Hereโs an excerpt from the Daily Sabah which fluffs Erdoganโs nuts on a daily basis:
Enes Kanter is the talk of the town in Turkey but not for his stats with Oklahoma City Thunder. It is his private life that has made him a household name in the country as he is the only NBA or probably basketball star openly supporting a terrorist group. And now, Sabah newspaper reports that Turkish prosecutors have issued an arrest warrant for the self-styled โadoptedโ son of Fetullah Gรผlen, the U.S.-based leader of the Gรผlenist Terror Group (FETร) blamed for the July 15 coup attempt in Kanterโs homeland Turkey.
Even comparing Erdogan to Adolf Hitler, Kanterโs criticism of Erdogan has been prevalent on Twitter.
In turn the Turkish government cancelled Kanterโs passport which caused the Oklahoma City Thunder center to be detained in Romania last week.
With the warrant in place, Turkey will reportedly attempt to apply for an Interpol โred noticeโ which will notify the 190 country members that an arrest is sought for Kanter. However given the underlying bogus claims it seems plausible the United States government and most other countries wonโt comply.
