Tiger Woods is officially a no go for the Masters.
In a statement released on his website, Tiger cites his ongoing back issues as the culprit for missing the yearβs first Major while also making mention thereβs no timetable for his return.
βUnfortunately, I wonβt be competing in this yearβs Masters. I did about everything I could to play, but my back rehabilitation didnβt allow me the time to get tournament ready. Iβm especially upset because itβs a special anniversary for me thatβs filled with a lot of great memories. I canβt believe itβs been 20 years since I won my first green jacket.
βI have no timetable for my return, but I will continue my diligent effort to recover, and want to get back out there as soon as possible.
βIβd like to pass along my regrets to Billy Payne, the Augusta National membership, staff, volunteers and patrons, that I wonβt be there. I will be at the Champions Dinner and I look forward to seeing a lot of old friends.
βAugusta National has been a very important place to me and my family for over 20 years, and while Iβm disappointed, it will be good to be back there Tuesday.β
Tigersβ absence continues to suck for golf in a sense however thereβs not as much of a reliance on him as there was a few years ago. The likes of Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and other have eased golf fans into an era where Woods competing in a tournament is few and far between.
