The WWE totally blew the Goldberg/Brock Lesnar main event

Goldberg

Goldberg

One of the most anticipated matches of the year in the WWE went about as well as a Kanye West concert in Sacramento.

The Brock Lesnar/Goldberg main event at Survivor Series which was crammed down the fan’s throats over the past several weeks (and for good reason too) lasted less than two minutes resulting in a Goldberg squash for the win.

Now I could go on with a laundry list of reasons why this may have been one of the worst main events in WWE pay-per view history however I’ll try and temper my rage for the time being and at least wait and see how they follow it up on tonight’s RAW.

I will say this though, it’s embarrassing on the WWE’s part to book the match the way they did when you consider the direction they’ve been guiding Lesnar’s character over the course of the past few years. This is the same guy that ended the Undertaker‘s streak at Wrestlemania and beat the face of the company in John Cena. TheĀ Beast IncarnateĀ was an unstoppable force and it was something that worked and certainly worthy of something more than a minute and half squash match. Hell, I think Goldberg’s entrance to the ring was longer than the actual match itself.

Also, don’t get me wrong, I love Goldberg. As a kid he was one of my favorite wrestlers growing up. But you have to ask yourself, what was the WWE setting themselves up for here? Yes, Goldberg is signed on for the Royal Rumble in January so we’ll certainly have a rematch and we’ll have the hype leading up which is obviously what the WWE wants.

But how excited can fans get about this given the outcome of last night?

Sure there’s still plenty of story left to be written between these two wrestling legends but has the rematch already written itself? Obviously the next match will go longer than two minutes (probably) but is that a match guaranteed to Lesnar? If it is Goldberg has still beaten him twice before one of which was within two minutes.

Either way the WWE totally took away from the Goldberg/Lesnar rematch at Royal Rumble with what happened last night and it’s something they really can’t go back on. Unless they’re planning on keeping Goldberg around for multiple appearances in 2017 which I don’t really see happening.
