Team USA Basketball is opting for the a luxury cruise ship over those unfinished and in some cases unfurnished Olympic Village dorms.
While in Rio, the men’s and women’s team will stay on this 16,800 ton ship called the ‘Silver Cloud’ that has everything you may need to compete for the gold… like a spa, open air pool, gym… bar… cigar lounge…
Anyways, here’s the Chicago Tribune to elaborate:
“Spacious yet intimate, designed to cross oceans and yet able to slip up rivers and into hidden harbours with ease, the yacht-like Silver Cloud carries just 296 guests in incomparable comfort and style,” the Silversea website says. “Combining spacious ocean-view suites and private verandas with stunning dining and entertainment options, our inaugural ship launched a new ocean standard and continues to epitomize Silversea’s vision of world-class cruise accommodations, service and amenities. Join us and come home to warmth and welcome anywhere in the world desire takes you.”
Living it up in luxury is nothing new for an always star studded Team USA lineup. Sure hotels were probably scarce in Rio, but the team always stays outside the Olympic Village and has since 1988.

This particular ship is probably a little more necessary this year given the drawbacks of Rio heading into this year’s games. Like the rampant gangs that roam the city. To combat this, multi-million dollar athletes will be protected by bullet proof walls on the ship and around the clock security.
