NFLPA to meet and possibly vote on Monday

This coming Monday, four days after the NFL owners ratified a proposed new CBA to end the NFL lockout, players will meet in Washington DC to possibly do the same.

According to SI.com, a person familiar with the situation informed the Associated Press that a vote could come Monday “it just depends on what guys feel about what happened this weekend … but (they) are not committing that the executive committee is going to vote on anything.”

SI.com stated that the person spoke on condition of anonymity because the association has not revealed its plans.

After the owners voted 31-0 to ratify the new deal, players chose to take the weekend to review the 200 page document before voting on the matter.

On Saturday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA head DeMaurice Smith spoke on the phone while lawyers worked to clarify the documentation.

According to another unidentified source, Monday’s meeting will be “to understand where things stand after this weekend’s conversations. No talk of not voting, no talk of vote.”

Of course before the players can vote they must first reform the players union after de-certifying back in March to try to hold up the lockout.

There are also still some concerns amongst the players in regards to the new CBA.

These include…

-the league’s personal conduct policy;

-drug testing;

-benefits, such as pension funds, the disability plan, and the “88 Plan,” which provides money for care of former players with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

The new CBA is reportedly good for 10 years. Stay tuned to The Majors Sports Network for more information on the NFL lockout.
