The Steven Stamkos sweepstakes has ended before it was able to begin.
In a stunner, the Lightning re-signed Stamkos to an eight year deal worth $8.5 million dollars per meaning he probably took less to stay in Tampa Bay.

Stamkos’ re-upping with the Lightning comes two days prior to the start of NHL agency as suitors were lining up to offer the 26-year old super star multi-year deals worth probably in excess of $10 million dollars per.
The deal though doesn’t come without some question marks. Sure it’s an ecumenical deal for the Lightning however heading into the 2017-18 season Steve Yzerman and company only have 10 players under contract.
