Offensive lineman Chris Bryant of Chicago Simeon high school is headed to the University of Michigan next season. The announcement was made Friday during a press conference at his high school according to the Detroit News and ESPN.

According to reports Michigan, Pittsburgh, Illinois and Arizona were all in the running to land the big lineman who is rated a 4 star recruit by Scout.com and a three star recruit by Rivals.com.

The 6-foot-5, 330-pounder had previous visits to Michigan who was considered a leading candidate until the firing of coach Rich Rodriguez and his staff. However after new Michigan head coach Brady Hoke and his coaching staff were able to get their sit downs with Bryant, it all but sealed the deal.

“It was great,” said Bryant after his Jan. 17 trip to Ann Arbor. “Even though the (former) coaches were not there, Michigan is still Michigan no matter who is there. Every time I go out there I just enjoy myself, and that is a place that makes me feel welcomed and keeps me coming back.

“(Coach Hoke) was cool. He is going to do something with that program. They’re fixing to get back on top. Brady Hoke is a good man. He is a players’ coach. He is the type that the players want to be around. He made a great first impression, and you know that first impression is always big.”
