Royals capitalize on opportunity in World Series win

The Kansas City Royals are your 2015 World Series Champions after defeating the New York Mets in five games with a 7-2, 12 inning come back Sunday night.

Christian Colon, who got his first bat of the playoffs in the 12th inning Sunday was the hero scoring the game winning hit as the Royals had to battle back in the 9th down 2-0 against Matt Harvey who looked unhittable. That eventually opened the flood gates as the Royals went on to score five runs in the 12th to seal their first World Series title since 1985.

Harvey’s presence though in the 9th will be the talk in New York for a long time coming.

Already over 100 pitchers, Mets manager Terry Collins already tabbed Jeurys Familia to start the 9th before Harvey pretty much demanded to go back out for what could have been the final frame. However after offering up a leadoff walk to Lorenzo Cain, Eric Hosmer doubled to left scoring CainĀ cutting into the New York lead with no one out. Salvador Perez was eventually able to knock Hosmer in on a ground out to third with Familia now pitching but Kansas City’s date with destiny already seemed etched in stone.

Generating the comeback has been a common theme for the Royals not just in the World Series but throughout the entire postseason.

The Royals were all but done in Game 4 against Houston during the ALDS before a rally sent the series back to Kansas City for the clincher. The Royals were then able to battle back against David Prince in a vital Game 2 with the Blue Jays before trailing in 4 of the 5 games against the Mets in the Fall Classic.

Kansas City took advantage of every opportunity given which is a big reason why they’re World Series Champions.

Unfortunately for Terry Collins and the Mets, the same simply cannot be said.
