Ned Yost and Bruce Bochy have chosen Dallas Keuchel and Zack Greinke to be the starting pitchers for the AL and NL All-Star squads respectively Tuesday night.
Greinke was a bit of a no brainer for Bochy and the National League All-Stars as the Dodgers hurler currently has a 1.39 ERA good for the best in all of baseball and lowest of any starting pitcher since 1968 heading into the Midsummer’s Classic. On top of that, Greinke is also enjoying a 35.2-inning scoreless steak.
Meanwhile on the other side, Dallas Keuchel’s selection serves as sort of a career redemption for himself. Keuchel went 9-18 with a 5.20 ERA for the Astros in 2012 and
2013 which in part could have been attributed to the Astros just being terrible. Last season though Keuchel bounced back becoming a workhorse of sorts throwing over 200 innings while maintaining a 2.93 ERA. He further capitalized off his 2014 success with a pretty damn good year thus far in 2015 notching a 2.23 ERA in a league-high 137 innings.
In addition to Greinke and Keuchel, the other NL and AL starters include:
National League: Madison Bumgarner, A.J. Burnett, Gerrit Cole, Jacob deGrom, Carlos Martinez, Clayton Kershaw, Shelby Miller, Max Scherzer, and Michael Wacha.
American League: Chris Archer, Sonny Gray, Felix Hernandez, David Price, Chris Sale, and Hector Santiago.
