The Red Sox have now dealt 3/4 of their starting rotation from the 2013 World Series.
Not long after dealing Jon Lester to the Athletics and just days after sending Jake Peavy to the Giants the Red Sox sent starting pitcher John Lackey to the St. Louis Cardinals for IF/OF Allen Craig and pitcher Joe Kelly.
The former 2013 All-Star, Craig has been struggling this season batting just .237 with 7 homers and 44 RBIs in 97 games. Craig also signed a five-year, $31 million contract prior to the start of the 2013 season meaning he will earn $5.5 million in 2015, $9 million in 2016 and $11 million in 2017. There’s also a $13 million club option for the 2018 season.
Kelly, a 26-year old right hander is 2-2 with a 4.37 ERA this season. In his three seasons with the Cards Kelly went 17-14 with a 3.25 ERA while his best season came last year going 10-5 with a 2.69 ERA.
For Lackey, he signed a five-year, $82.5 million deal prior to the start of the 2010 season with the Red Sox. After missing all of the 2012 season because of Tommy John Surgery, Lackey bounced back in 2013 helping Boston win the World Series and went 11-7 with a 3.60 ERA this year.
