Germany beats Brazil 7-1 in historic fashion

FBL-WC-2014-MATCH61-BRA-GER

It shouldn’t be any surprise that Germany came out on top in their semifinal match against Brazil today. Once Spain was eliminated in the Group stage Germany was arguably the best team left in the tournament.

What was surprising though was the fashion in which it was done.

The German National Team not only was dominant in their 7-1 victory over host Brazil, they won their semifinal matchup in historic fashion. The Brazil loss was the first in a competitive match since 1975… in fact it was Brazil’s worst loss in 94 years. That’s right, Germany handed the host nation (who by no means was a slouch) their most lopsided defeat in almost a century while being the first team to beat the Brazilian National Team in almost 40 years.

And when it came to Germany, they scored early and often as the game quickly turned into what could be considered a lopsided baseball score and a devastating soccer score.  Miroslav Klose became the leading World Cup scorer in history, Thomas Muller got his fifth of the tournament before Sami Khedira made it 5-0 in the first 30 minutes.

Germany eventually added two more goals in the second to further rub salt in the wound while Oscar scored in the 90′ minute to take away the shutout.

Setting a FIFA record, the Germans now head to their 8th World Cup Final against either Argentina or the Netherlands Sunday. Meanwhile Brazil will somehow have to play in the third place game against the loser of that Argentina/Netherlands match.

In the end though it looks as though more than Neymar’s back was broken in the quarterfinals. Brazil’s spirit and heart were snapped in half along with it.
