“We’ve talked to some people,” Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski said on Tuesday. “We’re open-minded about bringing someone in.”
Gage mentions that in addition to the competition, the Tigers want to provide some injury insurance for all of their five starters.
For the most part however it seems like the Tigers simply aren’t sold on Galarraga’s ability after a less then stellar season last year, especially after his near perfect game.
According to reports several weeks ago from FOXSports.com, the Tigers were eyeing former Dodger and Cardinal’s pitcher Brad Penny. Penny (32) however has spent the majority of his career in the National League which could be a deterrent for a lot of AL teams.
The Tigers also haven’t ruled out bringing back Jeremy Bonderman who became a free agent after the 2010 season.
“We’re keeping an open mind about Jeremy, too,” Dombrowski said.
