For as good as Justin Verlander is, it’s amazing how much he just completely sucks in the World Series.
One of the greatest pitchers in a generation and a sure Hall of Famer, Verlander managed to extend his World Series record to 0-6 after the Nationals forced a Game 7 with a 7-2 win. Not only that, in seven career World Series appearances, JV has a 5.68 ERA which just goes to show it’s not just about run support, he just flat out blows when it comes to the biggest series of the baseball season.
Couple that with the exact opposite.
Stephen Strasburg is now the first pitcher to go 5-0 in a single postseason. Moreover, his 1.98 ERA has actually risen thanks to his dominance this October which should probably get more recognition than it does, considering not many (including ourselves) were really counting on the Nats to do anything this postseason.
Perhaps though, this all just falls in line with the quirkiness of this World Series.
Last night, Nationals manager Dave Martinez was ejected after what was quite frankly a bullshit runner interference call…
Like, I’m not quite sure what Turner is supposed to do in this situation? Run outside the baseline and get called out anyways? I mean it’s not like his arms were flailing around like A-Rod nor did he even turn around to make note of where the throw was going.
In any sense, its good that play in particular didn’t weigh in on the final outcome of the game.
However, last night did produce another win for the road team meaning the home team has lost every single game thus far in this series while the visitors have enjoyed a 43-12 run differential.
How does that play into tonight? The Astros haven’t endured more than a two-game home losing streak at all this season. It seems unthinkable they drop all four at home however they’ll have to get by Max Scherzer who was scratched from Sundays start with back and neck spasms. Houston will counter with Zack Greinke who has a forgettable 0-2, 5.30 ERA this postseason.
