The Jets have pretty much solidified they’re taking a quarterback with the second overall pick in the upcoming draft.
Monday, New York traded starting QB Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers for a multitude of picks including a sixth-round pick this year plus second and fourth-round selections in 2022.
Speculation had been ongoing regarding the Jets trading Darnold even despite New York failing to secure that No. 1 overall selection and the right’s to Trevor Lawrence that came with it. Again though, with this move, the Jets are all but confirmed to take a QB at two with an early anticipated run at QB early with Jacksonville, New York, and San Francisco all positioned to take a quarterback with the one, two, and three picks respectively.
Likewise, the only team that doesn’t necessarily have to take a QB is San Francisco, although, what they gave up to get the third overall selection it really wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense for them to pull the trigger an anything otherwise.
For the Jets though, they’re going to have their pick of any QB not named Trevor Lawrence which can include Zach Wilson (BYU), Justin Fields (Ohio State), Trey Lance (North Dakota State), and Mac Jones (Alabama).
