Mets second baseman Robinson Cano has been popped for the second time for PEDs which will result in a 162-game suspension meaning his 2021 season is over.
New York Mets second baseman Robinson Cano tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug Stanozolol and will be suspended for the entire 2021 season, according to a statement by commissioner Rob Manfred.
It is the second PED suspension for Cano, 38, who missed 80 games in 2018 after testing positive for a diuretic while with the Seattle Mariners.

In addition to the suspension, Cano will forfeit his $24 million dollar salary and be one suspension away from a permanent ban from Major League Baseball. If that were the case, the 38-year-old veteran would be the second Mets player after Jenrry Mejía to receive a lifetime expulsion. Mejía though was successful in getting reinstated in 2018 after one-year away and has since moved on signing a minor league deal with the Red Sox in 2019 then with the Mexican League in 2020.
Cano was expected to be a major part of the Steve Cohen era in Queens complete with a new front office, however, that’ll obviously have to be put on hold for another year.
Currently, Cano has two years and $48 million dollars left on his contract. He originally signed a 10-year, $240 million dollar deal with the Mariners before he was traded to the Mets back in 2018 for top prospect Jarred Kelenic.
