Welp, so much for #FickellWatch. It has fizzled out.

In a gut blow to the Michigan State football program, Cincinnati’s Luke Fickell has turned down the Spartan job after interviewing for the vacant coaching position on Sunday.

Ouch.

It’s not like this is some apparent lateral move for Fickell. He’d be going back to a Big Ten program and I’m sure getting a raise on his current salary with the Bearcats. But, if this wasn’t strictly a family decision — which it’s not like he’d be moving his family across the country — you really have to wonder what condition the program really is in?

So, where does Michigan State go from here?

Colorado head coach Mel Tucker sounds like the next guy to get an interview with the Spartans. Beyond that names being thrown around include former MSU defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi, Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott, and Indiana coach Tom Allen among others.
