There’s nothing better in a long shitty Tigers season than some off the field, beat writer vs. beat writer entertainment.
Last year (albeit not beat writers) we had Rod Allen applying a rear naked choke to Mario Impemba after an argument over a nice comfy chair in the broadcast booth went to an entirely different level.
This year, we have the Detroit Free Press’ Anthony Fenech calling out the Detroit News’ Chris McCosky over the rumor the Tigers had a chance at one point to acquire Javier Baez and/or Alex Bregman at the 2017 trade deadline for Michael Fulmer. McCosky, who has the tendency to give Al Avila, Ron Gardenhire (who he often refers to as “Gardy”) and the rest of the Tigers organization the best backrubs unsurprisingly seemed to try and cover for the organization.
Surprisingly though, Fenech — who hasn’t exactly been known as a guy to blow the lid off Tigers reporting, especially given his tendency to take on free fantasy camp invites by the team — called out McCosky and continued to lay into him thereafter.
there was this which appeared to be Fenech at a heel turn on the Tigers organization…
Then, we have the Freep beat writer essentially channeling his inner Shawn Michaels and proceeded to give a little sweet chin music to Marty Jannetty through a glass window.
Daaaaaayyyyyuuummmm…. I don’t know what has gotten into Fenech. Perhaps it’s the Tigers flirting once again at setting the all-time mark for losses in a season? Maybe it’s this supposed rebuild looking like utter shit so for? Or perhaps it’s being tired of the daily foot rubs he subjected to giving the Tigers while guys like McCosky are more concerned with staying on “Gardy’s” good side. Perchance I’m giving Fenech a little too much credit here.
There’s one thing I do know though which is we need to see more of this side from Fenech and much less of the one who is waiting for next seasons’ Fantasy Camp tickets in the mail.
