The Chicago Bears aren’t wasn’t much time shaking up their offensive coaching staff in the wake of a very forgettable 2019 season offensively.
According to Kevin Patra of NFL.com, the Bears have parted with offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich, offensive line coach Harry Hiestand, tight ends coach Kevin Gilbride and assistant special teams coach Brock Olivo.
Obviously Helfrich stands out amongst the group who oversaw Mitch Trubisky take a huge step back this season compiling 63.2 percent of his passes for a 17-10 TD-INT ratio while posting a 83 passer rating. These numbers have lead to massive amounts of panic amongst the Bears front office who are going to give Trubisky another shot at the starting gig heading into next season. It’s clear the hope with the team is Trubisky finds some progression with a massively new offensive coaching staff in place for 2020.
It wasn’t just Trubisky’s output thought that led to the former Oregon head coach’s ouster.
Running back David Montgomery — who was expected to come in and become a replacement for Jordan Howard — was pretty much an afterthought in Helfrich’s offense.
