Former NBA commissioner David Stern has passed away at the age of 77 due to a brain hemorrhage suffered on December 17.
Inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014, Stern took over as commissioner of the NBA back in 1984. It was during his time as commissioner he oversaw some of the very best the game had to offer including the Magic and Bird of the ’80s, Jordan of the 90’s then Kobe and LeBron in the 2000s and beyond.
It was also Stern who had a big hand in turning the NBA into a global league as the Association expanded its footprint in Europe and especially China.
Stern tenure as NBA commissioner came to an end in 2014 when the reins were handed over to then deputy commissioner Adam Silver.
