๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽˆ The Red Wings are buying out Justin Abdelkader ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽˆ

Itโ€™s the end of an era in Detroit as the Red Wings have placed forward Justin Abdelkader on waivers for the purposes of a buyout.

I guess this is one of the more immediate differences between the way Steve Yzerman does things and the way Ken Holland does things as Iโ€™m pretty certain if Kenny was still around, Abdelkader probably wouldnโ€™t be finding himself on waivers. In which case speaking of Holland, you have to put the Oilers at the top of the list now in terms of prime suitors for Abdelkaderโ€™s services right?

Anyways, with three years left on his deal, the Red Wings wonโ€™t be totally devoid yet of dealing with Abdelkader as the team will be on the hook for a $1.8M cap hit this coming season followed by a $2.3M hit or the following two seasons and finally a $1.06M hit for the last three seasons of the buyout.

And to put a bow on the Abdelkader era, the Michigan native out of Muskegon who made his debut back during the 2007-08 season will finish his time in Detroit with 106 goals, 146 assists, and 252 points in 739 games.
