I guess this is one of the more immediate differences between the way Steve Yzerman does things and the way Ken Holland does things as I’m pretty certain if Kenny was still around, Abdelkader probably wouldn’t be finding himself on waivers. In which case speaking of Holland, you have to put the Oilers at the top of the list now in terms of prime suitors for Abdelkader’s services right?
Anyways, with three years left on his deal, the Red Wings won’t be totally devoid yet of dealing with Abdelkader as the team will be on the hook for a $1.8M cap hit this coming season followed by a $2.3M hit or the following two seasons and finally a $1.06M hit for the last three seasons of the buyout.
And to put a bow on the Abdelkader era, the Michigan native out of Muskegon who made his debut back during the 2007-08 season will finish his time in Detroit with 106 goals, 146 assists, and 252 points in 739 games.
