Count Darius Slay in for the Lions when training camp is set to open to the veterans tomorrow.
According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Slay will reportedly put to rest any preconceived notion of a holdout and be present for the first day of workouts. Slay’s decision comes less than a day after Damon Harrison also announced that he would attend training camp from the getgo.
Both Slay and Harrison didn’t participate in minicamp earlier in the year as both were looking for new deals with the team. Last week, Lions officials and agent Drew Rosenhaus (who represents both players) met, however, it’s unclear at this point if a new deal or set of incentives for both players have been hashed out.
Fines for missing minicamp are at the discretion the respective teams however the CBA allows organizations to fine players up to $88,650 for missing the full three days. When it comes to training camp, players could see fines jump to $40,000 per day missed.
