Soap operas like All My Children and Days of Our Lives are viewed throughout homes everywhere. Another soap opera is the WWE. As “fake” as all of it is, the bumps are real and being away from home 300 days out of the year is also as real as it gets. In the NFL, the Super Bowl is what everyone plays for, in MLB it’s all about the postseason and winning the World Series. In every sport it’s as important to win the big game as it is to get to the big game. In the sport of wrestling the big game is Wrestlemania. For 29 years, Wrestlemania has been around in arena’s and homes everywhere.

This year it’s Wrestlemania 29 and the match card looks like this as well as my predictions for the event.

Pre-Show Match
The Miz vs. Wade Barrett (champion) – Intercontinental Championship Match

It amazes me that the Miz was in the main event two years ago and now he’s in the pre-show for free! He has a lot of potential but not as much potential as the current champion Wade Barrett. He’s only had the title for two months, Barrett will keep the belt and hopefully stay off the pre-show for a while.

Prediction: Wade Barrett

Tons of Funk & The Funkadactyls vs. Team Rhodes Scholar & The Bella Twins

This match is just annoying. Tons of Funk is the dumbest team I’ve ever seen and it’s quite clear that Brodus Clay has no purpose in the WWE while Tensai was supposed to be this dominant guy with some kind of push and the creative team just dropped the ball on it. As for the Funkadactyls, I don’t even know what to say about them. The Bella Twins are nice as part of their managerial services and Team Rhodes Scholar make a good team. Hopefully, they move up the ladder, get the tag belts some day. I’m picking them to win.

Prediction: Team Rhodes Scholar & The Bella Twins

Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston vs. Team Hell No (champions) – WWE Tag Team Championship Match

Dolph and Big E have been getting quite the push as of late. It’s hard for me to go against it. Dolph does have the Money in the Bank briefcase so you have to think he’ll be cashing that in soon so maybe they won’t win. But Kane and Daniel Bryan (Team Hell No) are main event caliber guys and their tag team title run has gone for a while now. I see them losing and feuding after Mania.

Prediction: Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston

Ryback vs. Mark Henry

If the ring supports these two I’ll be shocked. They’re beasts in the gym and recently broke the world record for the bench press of 225 pounds! They both did 53 repetitions and then while Ryback was bringing up his 54th repetition, Mark Henry stopped him and pushed the bar down on his throat. I’d imagine that Ryback will get the upper-hand in this match and win since he was just in the main event at Elimination Chamber against CM Punk.

Prediction: Ryback

Randy Orton, Sheamus & Big Show vs. The Shield

Some people like the Shield, others hate them. In my opinion, the WWE needs them. Orton, Sheamus and Big Show don’t need one another, the Shield need to be together. I could see Randy Orton making a heel turn and be behind the Shield the whole time. Sheamus is way too much of a babyface to be involved with them and the Big Show just doesn’t mix with them. Many of the fans will be cheering for Orton, Sheamus and Show but I’ll be cheering for the Shield.

Prediction: The Shield

Jack Swagger vs. Alberto Del Rio (champion) – World Heavyweight Championship Match

The strong heel turn from Jack Swagger was much needed for him. Even though his whole ‘We the People’ gimmick is strong and causes a lot of controversy, I still believe it’s a huge risk everytime he’s out in the ring and on the microphone. As for Del Rio, I like him better as heel but it’s nice to see him show appreciation to the fans. Swagger has been coming out and beating up Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez way too much, I think Swagger loses this match for that reason.

Prediction: Alberto Del Rio

Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar (No Holds Barred Match; if Lesnar wins, Triple H must retire)

It’s hard to say that this will be match of the night but it has the making to be. Triple H is Triple H and Brock Lesnar is Brock Lesnar. They both have a long history in the company and to top it off, they get to have a No Holds Barred Match. It’s a type of match you don’t see as much anymore and it’s nice to see it on the card. I don’t like that Triple H must retire if he loses and I think he’ll win for that reason. As much as he’s involved with management, he’ll still get that urge to get into the ring in the future. The WWE can’t eliminate him from that.

Prediction: Triple H

The Undertaker vs. CM Punk (The Streak is on the line)

My mind wants to pick CM Punk but my heart says Undertaker. He’s 20-0 at Wrestlemania and there’s no reason to why he has to go 20-1. It looks as stupid as it sounds. With everything that’s been going on with the Undertaker and Punk involving that urn, the Undertaker can’t go out on a loss. He has to go out on top. Have him make a special announcement on Raw or Smackdown and retire that way or at the next PPV have Punk do a casket match with him. I have to go with the Undertaker on this one.

Prediction: The Undertaker

John Cena vs. The Rock (champion) – WWE Championship Match

Unfortunately this is the main event. I’m tired of John Cena and all his deep voice “motivational” speeches. He’s been with the company non-stop for 10 years now. It’s time for him to take a few months off and come back refreshed. Do something none of us have seen. As for the Rock, he’s the champion. He’s got a top notch movie out in G.I. Joe. The WWE is going to push for him each and every night until the Rock says stop. The Rock wins this match.

Prediction: The Rock

Overall I think it’ll be a good show and definitely worth your money despite main event being the same as last year and the first match of the night just being stupid. Everything else should be great and it is the WWE so you never know what you’ll see. I can’t wait to watch it!
