Monday morning, ESPN NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith issued out an apology for his comments regarding the Ray Rice suspension where he basically discussed what women could do to prevent provocation of domestic abuse. Smith called his words from last week “the most egregious error of (his) career” which were further brought to light by his ESPN colleague Michelle Beadle tearing him apart on Twitter.

After the apology the PR department at ESPN continued to try and put this fire out by releasing the following:

“We will continue to have constructive dialogue on this important topic. Stephen’s comments last Friday do not reflect our company’s point of view. As his apology demonstrates, he recognizes his mistakes and has a deeper appreciation of our company values.”

Now this probably won’t appease most of the Smith critics which is fine, you’re not going to please everyone especially when dealing with such a sensitive subject like domestic abuse. Not to mention Smith’s comments last week more than likely came from a simple ignorance on the subject rather than a deep seeded Freudian slip up which suggests if a woman is wearing a short skirt they deserve to get sexually harassed or beat.

Than again these types of comments are what you’re going to get from time-to-time when a simpleton like Smith tackle real world issues.
