The Ronda Rousey reign came to an end at UFC 193 Saturday night.

The most dominating female force in all of MMA who was thought to be unbeatable suffered her first career loss in a second round knock out to Holly Holm who took down the champion with a left kick to the side of the face.

Holm, who is a kick boxer by trade survived the critical first 30 seconds of the match where Rousey would score most of her victories something she (Rousey) was clearly trying to accomplish Saturday night. Holm however was able to use steady footwork to punch and duck as Rousey missed blow after blow which clearly frustrated the former champion.

And in the end, Holm for the most part dominated Rousey throughout the match.

The fight seemed very similar to the Shane Carwin/Brock Lesnar UFC 116 bout that saw Lesnar wear out Carwin after surviving the crucial first round.

Joe Rogan referred to the Holm/Rousey bout as the greatest upset in UFC history which undoubtedly true.

Rousey will certainly get her rematch if she wants it. She also mentioned prior to UFC 193 that she’d like to ‘disappear’ for a while which may or may not be a little tougher now given the circumstances. However Rousey could return for UFC 200 in July which would probably make for a remarkable Rousey vs. Holm part two summer hype fest for the UFC.
