With the MLB trade deadline just hours away, teams have begun to sell and buy as the season takes a turn for the stretch run.

Lets take a look at what’s been done so far…

Phillies acquire Hunter Pence from the Houston Astros for Jarred Cosart, Jonathan Singleton, Josh Zeid and a
player to be named later

Even though the Phillies having what seems to be a good lineup it was really no secret that they needed a bat. They got that bat in Hunter Pence who brings in a .308 average with 11 home runs and 62 RBI’s.

What did it cost them?

Only their two top top two prospects, hard-throwing right-hander Jarred Cosart and slugging first baseman Jonathan Singleton. Phillies fans shouldn’t worry too much about the future though since they still have an excellent farm system.

Tigers acquire Doug Fister and David Pauley from the Mariners for Charlie Furbush, Casper Wells, Francisco Martinez and a player to be named later

After talks broke down for Colorado’s Ubaldo Jimenez the Tigers moved on to Seattle’s Doug Fister to help them solve their rotation problems. In addition to Fister the Tigers also receiver RHP David Purcey who both come in having good numbers with no run support.

The Tigers paid a hefty price trading away highly regarded lefty Charlie Furbush, outfielder Casper Wells, top 3B prospect Francisco Martinez and a player to be named later.

Clearly the Tigers believe they can win this year.

Brewers acquire Jerry Hairston, Jr. from the Washington Nationals for Erik Komatsu

The injury to Rickie Weeks forced the Brewers to add depth to compensate. Hairston can come in and fill in at just about any position as well as second base.

Red Sox acquire Mike Aviles from the Kansas City Royals for Yamaico Navarro and Kendal Volz

Even though he was recently complaining about his utility role in Kansas City, Avilies should be happy going to a team that is in serious contention for a World Championship this season. Oh by the way, he is still expected to be a utility man with the Red Sox

Diamondbacks acquire Jason Marquis from the Washington Nationals for Zach Walters

Starter Jason Marquis goes to a Diamondbacks team that is currently in a divisional race with the San Francisco Giants. Marquis has had less than stellar second half’s and this should do much to offset the Carlos Beltran trade to the Giants.

Rangers acquire Koji Uehara from the Orioles for Chris Davis and Tommy Hunter

The Rangers bolster their bullpen by getting Koji Uehara who currently possesses a 1.72 ERA with a .702 WHIP all while pitching in the very tough AL East.
