This signing effectively ends their pursuit of Ryan Vogelsong, who got off to an awful start in 2013, but finished year on a solid run. Although he could still re-sign with the team, as Barry Zito has also left the club as a free agent.

The 2014 Giants rotation is now expected to include: Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum, Madison Bumgarner, Hudson, and either youngster Mike Kickham or veteran Yusmerio Petit.  If neither Kickham or Petit are destined to start for the club, the will likely have to retain the services of another free agent, as none of the clubs starting pitching prospects are close to major league ready.
