Detroit Tigers outfielder and known hot head Delmon Young was arrested early Friday morning after going on an anti-Semitic tirade and shoving a man outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel.

According to a report out of the New York Post, A panhandler wearing a yamulke approached a group of people to ask for some change. Young was reportedly standing by the group and upon hearing the panhandler started shouting “F–king Jews! F–king Jews!”

From here another man and a group of his friends confronted Young at about 2:40AM ET which then turned physical along 6th Avenue. Young then apparently scratched the 32-year-old male and shoved him to the ground of the Hilton Hotel lobby.

Both groups retreated after the fight but 911 was eventually called after scratches were seen on the victim in the physical assault. He was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Young though was arrested and reportedly “highly intoxicated”. He was taken to a local area hospital to sober up before being booked at the New York City Midtown North Precinct.

This wasn’t the first time Young has gotten in trouble for his temper. While playing for the Triple-A Durham Bulls, Young threw a bat at a home plate umpire after being called out on strikes.

The Tigers who recently put Young on the trade block after hitting .242, with 1 homer and 5 RBIs to start the season issued the following statement…

We are aware of the situation, however it is our club policy not to comment on pending legal matters. As we understand it, this is an allegation and we need to allow the legal process to take its course. It would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time. Per a provision in the Major League Baseball Basic Agreement, any allegation that involves alcohol is referred to MLB’s Employee Assistance Program.

Young will not be in the lineup for the Tigers on Friday when they open up a weekend series with the New York Yankees. No word yet though if he will be available throughout the rest of the series.
