MLS

It was a big night in the MLS Friday night.

Not only did the the League start its 21st season but it also welcomed it 22nd team with the expansion Minnesota United taking on the Portland Timbers.

However looking for redemption after the way the 2016 season ended, the Timbers made short work of the newcomers defeating Minnesota 5-1.

Diego Valeri and Fanendo Adi each had two goals in the victory while Christian Ramirez scored the first (and lone) goal in United history.

Despite this being the first game for Minnesota in MLS, this hasn’t been the first time these two clubs went head-to-head. Both squads matched-up against each other back in 2010 when both were part of USSF Division 2. The following season Portland would make their way to MLS. Both teams also played to a 2-2 draw in a preseason match last month.
