In a move everyone could see a mile away, the Miami Marlins have hired former Dodgers manager Don Mattingly to take over in South Beach in the same role.

Mattingly, who recently parted ways with the Dodgers after a 446-363 record and three consecutive NL West titles, becomes the 8th manager for the Marlins since 2010 while stepping into a very different set of circumstances than perhaps he’s use to in Los Angeles.

Sure the situation in Miami may come with less pressure than that of Southern California however the Marlins have a payroll that’s less than a third of what the Dodgers had last season while owner Jeffrey Loria has always been the target of plenty of deserved criticism.

Mattingly however isn’t a stranger to criticism or a rift with management or the clubhouse however the challenge of winning will certainly come at a greater challenge with the Marlins than that of the Dodgers.

But it’s not like the Marlins are completely voided of talent.

Currently they have two very formidable pieces in Jose Fernandez who’s definitely one of the best young pitchers in the game today while Giancarlo Stanton is an MVP candidate and one of the best pure hitters in the game today.

I guess you can say the manager hasn’t always been the problem or the biggest problem.
