The Canadian Press has cited sources that the Saskatchewan Roughriders have obtained the exclusive negotiating rights in the CFL for former Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor.
Pryor on Tuesday said he wouldn’t return to Ohio State after several reports surfaced that he accepted improper benefits while at the University. He was currently being investigated by the NCAA for the assortment of cars he had and was suspended for the first five games of the 2011 OSU season for trading memorabilia for tattoos.
Since making the decision to leave Ohio State, Pryor now has a few different options for his future in football. First he could declare himself eligible for the NFL supplemental draft. However with the uncertainty of the 2011 NFL season this option isn’t a guarantee. His second option would be playing pro football in either the UFL or the CFL. His third option would be sitting out the entire 2011 season, work with a quarterbacks coach then make himself available for the 2012 NFL Draft.
According to Pryor’s lawyer Larry James, the NFL supplemental draft remains Pryor’s top choice.
Pryor’s best choice may be playing in the UFL since it contains many former NFL players, coaches and runs a style of play that could be better suited for Pryor. Furthermore after the UFL season Pryor could then market himself more to NFL teams.
