It was decades in the making but the British drought at Wimbledon is over.

Sunday, Andy Murray became the first British male winner to win Wimbledon in 77 years as he defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets at the All English Club.

Murray was phenomenal and perhaps it truly was destiny for him to win this particular tournament after Nadal and Federer’s early exits. You also have to figure in Murray’s heartbreaking loss to Federer in last year’s finals as reason enough that history wouldn’t repeat itself.

You also have to consider Djokovic’s 35 unforced errors and the Serbian just not having it this time around. Still though with the home crowd behind him the pressure was squarely on the shoulder’s of Murray and he came through.
