Roger Federer made is triumphant return to major competitive tennis in the Australian Open and capped that comeback with his 18th Grand Slam.

Early Sunday morning in the United States, Federer came back from a 1-3 deficit in the fifth set to beat rival Rafael Nadal 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 to win his first major tournament after being shelved for six months with an injury.

At 35 you can’t count on Federer in any way improving his overall skills on the court. Professional tennis is unique in the sense that Federer’s dominating career maybe should’ve been an afterthought when he turned 30. Still though, even after extended time away from the game it doesn’t seem like you’ll be able to count Federer out as a contender anytime soon.
