For the second straight year, Rafael Nadal suffered an early round exit in the most prestigious tournament of the year. Except this time, it was in the opening round.

Monday, the two time Wimbledon Champion Nadal fell 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 to 135-ranked Belgian Steve Darcis in the opening round of Wimbledon. But not only was this uncharacteristic of Nadal but it marked the first time ever he suffered a first round loss in a grand slam event.

Last year Nadal lost to Lukas Rosol in the second round at the All England Club before taking seven months off to recovery from a knee injury.
