It appears that the end of the line is rapidly approaching for longtime Yankee Jorge Posada.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi spoke with Posada on Sunday informing him that he wasn’t going to be the designated hitter against Josh Beckett later that day or against any right-handers for that matter.

“He said he was going to put the best lineup on the field, and he doesn’t know when I’m going to DH again,”

The Yankees ended up losing to the Red Sox 3-2 in 10 innings on Sunday.

“So right now I’m sitting on the bench. I’m not happy about it, but right now I can’t do nothing about it. I put myself in this situation. I’ve just got to keep on working.”

Posada was previously benched in mid-May and responded to that by going on a six-week hot streak, batting .326 with three homers and 12 RBI over the next 32 games through the end of June. However, since July 1st he’s hitting only .205 with no home runs and four RBI in 26 games.

“He’s just struggling finding a way to get his hits, to hit the ball out of the ballpark,” Girardi said. “He did go on a good streak after we had the situation in May. It’s just been a tough year for him.”

According to the New York Daily News, Girardi said Posada was “okay” after hearing the news, and while the manager could see the disappointment in the veteran’s face, the skipper did what he felt was best for the club.
