According to his agent John Boggs, Padres great Tony Gwynn passed away at the age of 54 after a long battle with cancer.

Gwynn, who spent his entire 20-year career with the Padres finished his MLB tenure with a .338 batting average, 15 All-Star Game appearances and five Gold Gloves as well as being considering one of if not thee greatest hitter of the generation. Gwynn was eventually immortalized in 2007 as a first ballot Hall of Famer which for all intents and purposes was a no-brainer.
After baseball Gwynn went on to become the head baseball coach for San Diego State University where he spent the last 12 seasons.
