An Ohio high school football coach plans to honor and rally support for ousted Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel.

According to the USA Today, Jim McQuaide a coach at Solon (Ohio) High School wants to get Ohio high school coaches to wear a white dress shirt and tie on the first game of the upcoming season.

Why?

McQuaide feels that this would show solidarity towards Tressel who stepped down from Ohio State amid allegations of major NCAA violations.

The USA Today goes on to state that McQuaide’s proposal was adapted by the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association.

“(Tressel’s) been a tremendous advocate for our coaches association and for high school football in our state. This is just to say thanks for what he did for us and our students for many years. It’s not my place or our association’s place to say if he was right or wrong for what he did at Ohio State. This is just looking at what he did for high school football in our state.”

St. Xavier High (Cincinnati) football coach Steve Specht feels a little differently about the proposal. Specht who often times wears a dress shirt, tie and sweater vest in honor of Tressel wonders what exactly would they be honoring for doing this?

“He’s as quality a human being as anyone I’ve met, but my only question is, what are we honoring here? We’ve had a lot of great coaches that have come through here, and we’ve never honored anybody by wearing a shirt and tie,” Specht said. “It’s not as if he passed away. He’s done a lot for high school football in Ohio, but there have been a lot of coaches who have done a lot, and we didn’t honor any of those guys.”

Tressel was again in the news this past week after it was announced that he received an unacceptable rating  on performance evaluations when it came to self-reporting possible NCAA violations.
