History was made in more ways than one Thursday night in the first round of the NFL Draft!

First, the Kansas City Chiefs in some ways may have turned some heads selecting Central Michigan offensive tackle Eric Fisher with the first overall pick passing on Luke Joeckel of Texas A&M and Lane Johnson of Oklahoma. Obviously the level of play may come into question with Fisher playing in MAC and mid level conference compared to Joeckel and Johnson playing more elite talent level in the SEC and Big 12. And despite offensive tackle not being that sexy position so-to-speak much like Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, Fisher, Joeckel and Johnson will without a doubt be compared to each other throughout their NFL careers.

Aside from that though, the first round of this year’s draft would also see zero running backs taken in the first round, something that hasn’t happened in the modern draft era (since 1963).

The second round should also continue to bring more excitement and surprises as West Virginia QB Geno Smith and Notre Dame TE Manti Te’o both fell out of the first round Thursday night.
