For the first time since the mid 90’s the National League has won consecutive All-Star Games after beating the American League 5-1 tonight from Chase Field in Phoenix while securing home field advantage in the World Series.

Milwaukee Brewers slugger Prince Fielder came up big for the NL after his three-run blast put the National League up for good. Fielder was also named the games MVP.

Washington Nationals pitcher Tyler Clippard earned the win after facing one batter, who singled. Left fielder Hunter Pence, though, threw out Jose Bautista at home on the play and the NL got out of a two-on, two-out jam. Texas pitcher C.J. Wilson ended up getting the loss.

Giants closer Brian Wilson and his beard were able to come out during the 9th and seal the deal for the National League.

A sub plot to tonight’s game however was the somewhat lack of star power in the game itself. Notable players such as Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Justin Verlander and Felix Hernandez were held out of tonight’s game due to them being ineligible, injured or taking the night off due to ‘exhaustion’.
