The MLBPA has spoken, they’re not going to waste their time protecting players who are obviously guilty in the latest PED scandal stemming from the Biogenesis clinic in Florida.
MLBPA head guy Michael Weiner told New York’s Daily News:
“I can tell you, if we have a case where there really is overwhelming evidence, that a player committed a violation of the program, our fight is going to be that they make a deal,” Weiner said without referring to specific players. “We’re not interested in having players with overwhelming evidence that they violated the (drug) program out there. Most of the players aren’t interested in that. We’d like to have a clean program.”
This is all despite suspensions more than likely not being served until 2014 because of the nature of the situation and likely hood of appeals. However the MLBPA did stress that players who have overwhelming evidence against them come to an agreement with the League.
Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who is scheduled to return to the team Monday, is reported to have vast amounts of evidence against him stating that he did indeed receive PEDs from the Biogenesis clinic. If that’s that case A-Rod would be a candidate to come to an agreement with MLB which has been the rumor floating around.
Major League Baseball should begin moving forward with the announcement of suspensions any day now.
