In the end one team simply ran out of gas and the better team prevailed.

Mario Götze scored in the 113′ minute to lift Germany to an eventual 1-0 victory over Argentina in Sunday’s World Cup final from Brazil. The goal itself was a thing of beauty as Götze displayed excellent control and finish that ended the stalemate between the two teams.

The win for Germany, who was without a doubt the best team heading into the final match and though out the tournament marks their fourth World Cup win and the first European team to do so on an American continent.

Germany has also shown amazing consistency since becoming a unified country. Once the Berlin Wall came down and East and West became Germany has never been out of the Tournament before the third round of competition. They’ve also never been eliminated in the group stages of play which when you consider what happened to Spain, England and Italy this year that feat is pretty amazing as well.

In short, Brazil may have the most World Cup titles but Germany has been by far the most consistent team throughout the Tournament’s long history.
