Manny Pacquiao

For the longest time, Manny Pacquiao has gotten away with his own backwards views on homosexuality. In fact in the weeks and days leading up to his historic bout with Floyd Mayweather, Pacquiao was labeled the good guy going up against the perpetual woman beater who undoubtedly Floyd Mayweather is.

Fast forward to a recent interview Pacquiao gave to a local television sports reporter (via the Daily Telegraph) where he labeled gay couples as being ‘worse than animals’ since animals can ‘distinguish male from female’.

“It’s common sense. Do you see animals mating with the same sex? Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female,” the 37-year-old stated. “If men mate with men and women mate with women they are worse than animals.”

Since making the absurd and deplorable comparison, Pacquiao came out and apologized for his comments via his Twitter feed.

And just like any other sugar coated bigot, Pacquiao in the past has tried to mask his own asinine opinions and viewpoints by playing the ‘I have a gay cousin’ or ‘I have a gay friend’ so publicly disparaging them is okay card.

Here’s what Pacquiao told the Associated Press (via the Boxing Scene) regarding his thoughts on gay marriage in the wake of the historic U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the matter:

“I’m not against the gay people. I’m not condemning them…I have a cousin (who is) gay. I have relatives (who are) gay. I have a lot of friends (who are) gay, so I’m not condemning gays. What I said is I’m not in favour of same-sex marriage.”

Pacquiao though isn’t unique in his thinking. The former boxing champion is one of many small minded idiots who hide behind their religion to decry a group of individuals. What makes Pacquiao a little more unique is he’s a guy running for office in his home country of the Philippines.

Sucks for the people of the Philippines.
