The New York Mets may have had more options in trading closer Francisco “K-Rod” Rodriguez then originally thought.

According to the New York Times by way of the SportingNews, Rodriguez’s former agent, Paul Kinzer never submitted his (Rodriguez’s) list of teams he could veto a trade to. Based on K-Rod’s original contract, he could veto a trade to ten total teams and the Milwaukee Brewers were on that list.

The catching point to his however was Kinzer never submitted the list to the MLB Players association or Major League Baseball so essentially the Mets could have traded K-Rod to any team they wanted.

“I’m still trying to find out what happened. I was told by my ex-agent about the 10-team list and Milwaukee was one of them,” Rodriguez said. “When I got the phone call from the GM and told I was traded I was a little confused. I just found out my agent never sent the letter to the players association or MLB. The Mets had an opportunity to trade me to any place.”

Rodriguez said he originally had the Brewers on his list because Milwaukee already had an established closer in Trevor Hoffman on their roster. Since this isn’t the case now, Rodriguez is fine landing in Milwaukee.

After the All-Star Game on Tuesday, the Mets traded Rodriguez to the Brewers for two players to be named later.
