The United States earned their revenge from four-years ago defeated Ghana 2-1 in their Group G World Cup opener.

Clint Dempsey opened up the scoring in the first minute of play beating two defenders and banking his shot off the post. Dempsey’s goal became the 5th fastest goal scored in World Cup history.

Despite though opening up strong the United States played on their heels pretty much the entire match as Ghana held possession for 59 percent of the game. Ghana also dominated in shots getting 21 off with 8 hitting the net while the United States had 8 total shots with 7 of those being on target.

In the second half Ghana was awarded for their persistence late as Andre Ayew finally got the Black Stars on the board in the 82 minute of play. However just four minutes later on a corner U.S. defender John Brooks got a header of a deflection to put the United States up for good.

The United States’ revenge in this one stems from being eliminated by Ghana four years ago during the South African World Cup.

The U.S. now goes on to resume their group of death play Sunday against Portugal while Ghana takes on Germany.
