Two years after signing a five-year contract worth $35 million dollars with the Indianapolis Colts, Gosder Cherilus has been released.

Cherilus had numerous injuries in 2014 which many believe is the basis for his release. As he currently goes through rehab for his injured knee, Cherilus wasn’t expected to return to the field until at least the beginning of August. It now looks like he won’t be returning to the field at all, at least not for the Colts.

Cherilus was the 17th overall pick by the Detroit Lions in 2008 where he became the starting right tackle after the third game of the season. After four-years with the Lions, Cherilus was one of the better offensive tackles in the 2013 free agency class. And it was his status on the 2013 free agent market that led to him signing with an offensive line needy team like the Indianapolis Colts.

Cherilus must now finish his rehabilitation for his hurt knee before having any hopes of signing with a new team. If he does sign with a team, it’ll more than likely be for a much cheaper deal than what the Colts offered and it’ll be to a team that needs veteran depth upfront.

Cherilus is 31-years-old with 100 career starts.
